Sequestered Reality

A Unique Blend of Chinese Philosophy and Contemporary Design

Inspired by the well-known Chinese value of philosophy, "round sky and square earth," the Sequestered Reality design by HSIN TING WENG is a stunning example of residential interior design that combines harmony and integrity. With its lavish use of marble, mirrors, and glass, this design creates a space that is both visually striking and deeply rooted in Chinese culture.

Spanning 211 square meters in Taichung city, Taiwan, Sequestered Reality is a testament to the designer's meticulous attention to detail and commitment to creating a space that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional. The walls are paneled with marbles, exuding a sense of luxury and elegance. Mirror-framed open cabinets are orderly mounted, providing both storage and a visually appealing display area. The ceilings, formed in multiple recessed layers, add depth and dimension to the space.

One of the standout features of Sequestered Reality is the dome ceiling designed above the dining table. This design element symbolizes unity and reunion, reflecting the value of being well-rounded. It serves as a focal point in the room, drawing attention and creating a sense of togetherness for family and guests.

The use of different materials in this design is a testament to the designer's skill in integrating multiple construction materials. White Georgia marble panels line the hallway, while nero Marquina spreads its vein throughout the dining area. Mirror frames embellished with smoked oak veneers reflect the white marble, creating a Yin-and-Yang illusion. The duality between black and white completes the color unity, sustaining oriental vibes and an imposing master plan.

Sequestered Reality also prioritizes functionality and privacy. The spacious living room and dining area provide ample space for public interaction, while hidden doors enclose the conversion of each private room, ensuring privacy when needed.

The design challenges for Sequestered Reality were overcome by carefully selecting and proportioning various materials. The goal was to avoid chaotic visualization and create coherence among the different elements. The result is a space that is visually stunning yet harmonious.

At the hallway, the coexistence between marble and leather creates sumptuous vibes. Dim lights and a hanging cabinet add a touch of novelty to the entrance. Marble veins running through the walls pour oriental touches, while deep wood-veneering accentuates spatial magnificence. Round and square mirror elements serve as complementary embellishments, and the ceiling arc design directs focus downward to the dining area. The taupe color scheme creates a calm and restrained ambiance, with the space transforming as light and shadow alter.

Sequestered Reality was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2019 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award recognizes designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life. The Sequestered Reality design is a testament to the designer's ability to incorporate best practices in art, science, design, and technology, making the world a better place.
